DISRESPECTING THE US FLAG - LIBERAL MORONS IN EDUCATION

College Won't Pull Flag Display

As vets protest art, college stands firm

September 13, 2003

Nassau Community College President Sean Fanelli, writing in response to the county executive's demand that "this desecration stop," said he would not remove artwork on display at the college that invites viewers to step on the American flag.

"I cannot accede to your request," Fanelli wrote in a letter to County Executive Thomas Suozzi, even though Fanelli noted he agreed with many who found the artwork "objectionable and distasteful."

Fanelli wrote, in part, "In the past, our Nation and its Flag have been attacked by armies fighting on behalf of philosophies that wanted the individual to be subservient to the dictates of the state. ... In these philosophies, there was no room for people who would stand up for non-mainstream ideas. In fact, they were killed."

Fanelli's letter said the American flag symbolizes values such as "the protection of the freedom that our Nation so cherishes."

A spokesman for the county executive said Suozzi was unavailable to respond. Fanelli was writing in response to Suozzi's letter the previous day.
